Vitis Prohibita

Ce vin qui coule dans nos veines

Director Stephan Balay intoxicates us with this little happiness served in resistance. Here is a menu that smells of scrub. Of those that history builds with the will of men and women. Defend the nourishing earth. It’s your friends’ wine that you drink! That of fraternity. Who knows these prohibited wines? Who knows about this blacklisting by Brussels of grape varieties a century and a half old. These names may not mean anything to you! Names in resistance. Clinton, othello, herbemont or even jacquez banned from sale in France. You have to arm yourself with a camera, and rewind the story to face, with intelligence, the legend of the anathema which weighs on them. Stephan Balay succeeded perfectly. Between the vines, we talk, sometimes with music. We drink, of course, we taste, we exchange … between Italian, Austrian, Romanian … The Europe of prohibited grape varieties. The resistance vine is like the right winemaker in his boots. Proud and social. The sharing is there, in the defense and recognition of these “amateur” winemakers who maintain this freedom to be, despite the ban. Defend these wines which made people mad, condemned without appeal like the witches of Salem, in the name of the improbable. Charged process so that standardization and “proprietary” wines triumph. The fight is there. This is not the only one. The other strength of the film is the resulting human unity. These European citizens speak the same language. The ancestral one of wine and land. The investigation will continue on the other side of the Atlantic. In the United States where these controversial grape varieties come from. Another upcoming film, the beginnings of which are already present in Vitis Prohibita. Wines in resistance. Which are told under the camera of Stephan Balay. Hope against Brussels lobbyists. Nothing is lost. These wines without appellation, robust, have the harshness of freedom.
